Mo-Kan Border Bonanza Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help with the gate and ribbons during the Border Bonanza show, during all daily sessions.
Because of the concurrent show format, ribbons will
be presented in the ring for each judge’s placings, and this will require more personnel to give them out.
Anyone interested in helping for a session please contact Pamm Payne, 816-524-1480 or ppayne14@aol.com
It is a great opportunity to see the show up close and
personal!

Mo-Kan Border Bonanza Class Sponsorships

Class Sponsorships are available, $25 for a regular class and $50 for a championship class. Sponsors will be announced during the class and have the opportunity to help present the blue ribbon to the class winner.
Forms are available here.

General membership & election meeting

The next GKCAHA General membership and election of board members & delegates will be Sunday April 11th, 2010.  A time and place to be determined.  Stay tuned!

GKCAHA is 45 years old!

The Greater Kansas City Arabian Horse association turned 45 this year.  We thought we would start off with a little trivia.

When was the first GKCAHA show? June 22-23, 1968 at the American Royal

How many classes were held?  There were only a total of 66 classes for the entire show

What current GKCAHA board member exhibited in the 13 and under at the 1970 show?  Kevin Jochens

Does anyone know the answer to these questions?

What was a masquerade class?

Who designed the cover of the first show book?

Stay tuned for additional trivia and other questions along with some copies of old show programs from the early years of GKCAHA!

Mid-Winter Celebration wrap up!

The annual GKCAHA Mid-Winter Celebration was on  January 23rd, 2010 at 6pm at the Lions Community Building in Peculiar.  Our theme this year was Mardi Gras!  Everyone had a great time!

The food was delicious!  Thank you to everyone that attended.

We will be providing a wrap up of the high point awards that were given that night soon!  Stand tuned.

Glen True, American Royal Arabian Horse Person of the Year!

The American Royal has chosen Glen True at the American Royal Arabian Horse Person of the Year!  This is a new honor that was started this year.  One member from each breed was selected. Congratulations Glen!

New Region 11 Director & Vice Director

The AHA region 11 leadership has a distinct GKCAHA flavor.  Angela O'Neill was elected as the new director of Region 11 and Glen True is the new vice-director.  Congratulations to both! Kansas City was the site of the Region 11 delegate meeting.  Sharon True put together gift baskets for our friends from the rest of Region 11.  They were a big hit and enjoyed by all.

Arabian Horse Galleries

The new Al-Marah Arabian Horse Galleries is close to reality, with an opening planned in June, 2010. The Gallery is located in the Kentucky Horse Park at Lexington, Kentucky.
The Galleries will serve as one of the few permanent exhibits in the world dedicated to the history and celebration of the Arabian horse breed. It will be situated as part of the International Museum of
the Horse, attracting well over 1 million visitors a year.

Bazy Tankersley, owner of Al-Marah Arabians in Tucson, is the major donor that enabled the Galleries to be constructed. Future maintenance and operation is to be under the State of Kentucky, as part of the Museum.
Exciting media-enhanced exhibits will be an integral part of the Galleries, enabling visitors to experience the beauty and contributions of the Arabian horse throughout history, and to see the many important people who have been a part of Arabian history.
As part of the grand-opening celebration, a permanent donor wall is being established, consisting of etched glass panels. The Greater Kansas City
Arabian Horse Association has contributed $1000 to the Galleries, thereby joining many others in supporting this wonderful project that is dedicated to
the Arabian horse.
GKCAHA also plans to sponsor a week-end bus trip at a future date to Lexington to view the Galleries. Watch for more information about this event on the website.
